Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don’t stop. Start where you are, with what you have. Just…start.

How Is EMDR Different From Other Therapies?
EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or homework between sessions. EMDR supports the brain to resume its own natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to process traumatic memories in the brain, so the person is informed by these memories but not controlled by them. Part of the therapy includes alternating eye movements, sounds, or taps. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. (EMDRIA, 2022)
Experiencing EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that uses eye movements, sounds, or tapping to help the brain reprocess memories of traumatic or distressing events. It's like giving your brain a different way to unlock those stuck emotions and allowing you to heal from the inside out. It doesn't erase a memory, but it can make it feel less overwhelming, giving you more control over your thoughts, feelings, and emotional reactions in the future.
You might think that the word trauma is just reserved for things like serious car accidents, life threatening experiences, war trauma, or sexual violence, but trauma can come in many forms: bullying, emotional abuse, divorce or loss of significant relationships, loss of a job, and non-life threatening injuries are a few examples.
How fast you may experience relief from your symptoms through EMDR depends on the format (intensive vs. weekly) and session length. Either way, EMDR often is able to move more quickly than other therapies you may have tried. Please see the FAQ page for information on EMDR intensives vs. weekly therapy.
